Vidhurinda Samaraweera is a co-founder of the Gustav Mahler Society of Colombo and concurrently the Associate Chief Conductor of the Gustav Mahler Orchestra. He has been the confidante of Srimal Weerasinghe since school days and this friendship eventually led to the forging of our esteemed institution. Vidhurinda is an undergraduate of the General Sir John Kotelawela Defence University and the College of Chemical Sciences studying Law and Chemistry respectively.

Vidhurinda received his primary education from C.W.W.Kannangara Central College, Mathugama and subsequently joined S.Thomas' College, Mt. Lavinia (STC) for secondary studies. He took his first Piano and Guitar lessons with Mr.Lal De Saram. He meets Srimal Weerasinghe at STC who taught him recorder playing and fundamental theories of music.

His first concert experience was with the Thomian Chamber Orchestra (TCO) in 2009 as a recorder player. In 2010, he joined the National Youth Orchestra of Sri Lanka (NYO) at the age of 13 to learn the French-Horn.

Vidhurinda showed immense improvement in horn playing in a short run and went on to join some of the dominant orchestras in the island back then. He feels privileged to have performed as the Principal Horn player under the baton of the likes of Manilal Weerakoon, Dayananda Fernando, Ananda Dabare, James Ross, and Keiko Kobayashi.

Vidhurinda has collaborated with foreign musicians from the United Kingdom, Japan, India, and Germany which shaped his approach to ensemble playing.

He owes much of his success to his parents, his best friend Srimal, his mentor and teacher Mr.Manilal Weerakoon and to all who have taught him valuable life-lessons along the path. Vidhurinda believes in unity and oneness of all things and aspires to transcend social division, stigmas, and dogmas.
